A sharp Hungarian Gypsy is used for folk-flavored and cinematic writing. Think of it as an exotic seven-note scale full of raised tones. It is A♯ Natural Minor with the fourth raised.
Its notes are A♯, B♯, C♯, D♯♯, E♯, F♯, and G♯. The formula is W H 1½ H H W W. It is the fourth mode of E♯ Neapolitan Minor.
Also called Shanmukhapriya and Aeolian ♯4.
This mode shares E with the guitar's open strings. Down at the 1st fret of the A string lies the lowest A♯ a guitar can play. With a capo at the first fret, A♯ Hungarian Gypsy can be played with A-shape fingerings.
