F 7#5 Pentatonic is used for jazz solos over augmented and dominant chords. Think of it as a five-note scale with a raised fifth over a major third.
Its notes are F, G, A, C♯, and D. The formula is W W 4 semitones H 1½. It is the second mode of D Melodic Minor Pentatonic.
This scale shares A, D, and G with the guitar's open strings. Down at the 1st fret of the low E string lies the lowest F a guitar can play. The first three frets carry a complete octave of F 7#5 Pentatonic, a genuine open-position shape.
