About the F Algerian scale
F Algerian is used for North African flavored and cinematic music. Think of it as an ornate eight-note scale, a harmonic minor with an extra raised fourth. It is F Diminished with the sixth lowered.
Its notes are F, G, A♭, B♭, B, C, D♭, and E. The formula is W H W H H H 1½ H. It is the fourth mode of C Bebop Altered.
An unfretted guitar already sounds E, G, and B from this scale. A guitarist finds the lowest F at the 1st fret of the low E string. The first three frets carry a complete octave of F Algerian, a genuine open-position shape.
