About the F sharp Dorian Pentatonic scale

F sharp Dorian Pentatonic is used for jazz, funk and modal solos. Think of it as a five-note dorian color, minor with a hopeful sixth. It is F Major Pentatonic with the third lowered.

Its notes are F, G, A, C, and D. The formula is W H 4 semitones W 1½.

Also called Kumoi and Shivaranjani.

In F Dorian Pentatonic, the open string sounds A. A guitarist finds the lowest F at the 2nd fret of the low E string. A capo at the second fret brings F Dorian Pentatonic within reach of E-shape fingerings.
