About the G flat Dorian b2 scale
G flat Dorian b2 is used for jazz solos over suspended and minor chords. Think of it as a dark dorian with a flat second, the second mode of melodic minor.
Its notes are G♭, A♭♭, B♭♭, C♭, D♭, E♭, and F♭. The formula is H W W W W H W. It is the second mode of F♭ Melodic Minor Ascending.
Also called Phrygian ♮6 and Javanese.
In G♭ Dorian ♭2, the open strings sound E, A, G, and B. Down at the 2nd fret of the low E string lies the lowest G♭ a guitar can play. With a capo at the second fret, G♭ Dorian ♭2 can be played with E-shape fingerings.
