G sharp Major Pentatonic is used for folk, country, pop, gospel and countless melodies and solos. Think of it as the five-note major scale, open and singable with no notes that clash. It is G♯ Dorian Pentatonic with the third raised.
Its notes are G♯, A♯, B♯, D♯, and E♯. The formula is W W 1½ W 1½.
Also called Bhoopali and Mohanam.
The lowest G♯ on a standard-tuned guitar sits at the 4th fret of the low E string. With a capo at the first fret, G♯ Major Pentatonic can be played with G-shape fingerings.
