About the G Diminished Half-Whole scale
G Diminished Half-Whole is used for jazz improvisation over dominant seventh chords. Think of it as the diminished scale starting with a half step, tailor made for dominant chords.
Its notes are G, A♭, B♭, B, C♯, D, E, and F. The formula is H W H W H W H W. It is the second mode of F Diminished.
Also called Symmetric Diminished and Dominant Diminished.
The open-string notes E, D, G, and B all sit inside the key. The 3rd fret of the low E string is the lowest G on the neck. G Diminished Half-Whole sits in true open position, with a complete octave of the scale inside the first three frets.
