About the F Diminished Half-Whole scale
F Diminished Half-Whole is used for jazz improvisation over dominant seventh chords. Think of it as the diminished scale starting with a half step, tailor made for dominant chords.
Its notes are F, G♭, A♭, A, B, C, D, and E♭. The formula is H W H W H W H W. It is the second mode of E♭ Diminished.
Also called Symmetric Diminished and Dominant Diminished.
In F Diminished Half-Whole, the open strings sound A, D, and B. Down at the 1st fret of the low E string lies the lowest F a guitar can play. Placed at the first fret, a capo lets F Diminished Half-Whole be played with E-shape fingerings.
