About the G Locrian Pentatonic scale
G Locrian Pentatonic is used for jazz solos over half-diminished chords. Think of it as a five-note scale built around the flat fifth.
Its notes are G, B♭, C, D♭, and F. The formula is 1½ W H 4 semitones W. It is the fifth mode of B♭ Dorian Pentatonic.
Also called Minor 7♭5 Pentatonic.
An unfretted guitar already sounds G from this mode. Down at the 3rd fret of the low E string lies the lowest G a guitar can play. A full root-to-root octave of G Locrian Pentatonic fits within the first three frets, so it has a real open-position box.
