About the C sharp Locrian scale
C sharp Locrian is used for jazz soloing over half-diminished chords and tense, dissonant passages. Think of it as the most unstable mode of all, restless and unresolved. It is C♯ Phrygian with the fifth lowered.
Its notes are C♯, D, E, F♯, G, A, and B. The formula is H W W H W W W. It is the seventh mode of D Major.
Five open-string notes belong to C♯ Locrian, namely E, A, D, G, and B. A guitarist finds the lowest C♯ at the 4th fret of the A string. A capo at the first fret brings C♯ Locrian within reach of C-shape fingerings.
