About the F sharp Locrian scale
F sharp Locrian is used for jazz soloing over half-diminished chords and tense, dissonant passages. Think of it as the most unstable mode of all, restless and unresolved. It is F♯ Phrygian with the fifth lowered.
Its notes are F♯, G, A, B, C, D, and E. The formula is H W W H W W W. It is the seventh mode of G Major.
The open-string notes E, A, D, G, and B all sit inside the scale. A guitarist finds the lowest F♯ at the 2nd fret of the low E string. A capo at the second fret lets a guitarist play F♯ Locrian with E-shape fingerings.
