G flat Blues Diminished is used for blues and jazz-blues solos. Think of it as a six-note blues scale with a diminished twist. It is G♭ Minor Blues with the fourth lowered.
Its notes are G♭, A, B♭, C, D♭, and F♭. The formula is 1½ H W H 1½ W.
The open-string notes E and A all sit inside this mode. The lowest G♭ on a standard-tuned guitar sits at the 2nd fret of the low E string. With a capo at the second fret, G♭ Blues Diminished can be played with E-shape fingerings.
