About the G flat Ultra Locrian scale
G flat Ultra Locrian is used for jazz over diminished dominant chords and extreme, dissonant writing. Think of it as the darkest locrian of all, lowered all the way to a double-flat seventh.
Its notes are G♭, A♭♭, B♭♭, C♭♭, D♭♭, E♭♭, and F♭♭. The formula is H W H W W H 1½. It is the seventh mode of A♭♭ Harmonic Minor.
Also called Altered Diminished.
Three open-string notes belong to G♭ Ultra Locrian, namely A, D, and G. A guitarist finds the lowest G♭ at the 2nd fret of the low E string. Capo the second fret to play G♭ Ultra Locrian with E-shape fingerings.
