About the A sharp Ultra Locrian scale
A sharp Ultra Locrian is used for jazz over diminished dominant chords and extreme, dissonant writing. Think of it as the darkest locrian of all, lowered all the way to a double-flat seventh.
Its notes are A♯, B, C♯, D, E, F♯, and G. The formula is H W H W W H 1½. It is the seventh mode of B Harmonic Minor.
Also called Altered Diminished.
An unfretted guitar already sounds E, D, G, and B from the key. On guitar, the deepest A♯ within reach is the 1st fret of the A string. A capo at the first fret lets a guitarist play A♯ Ultra Locrian with A-shape fingerings.
