F sharp Mixolydian is used for blues, rock, funk and jam-band grooves like "Sweet Home Alabama". Think of it as a major scale with a bluesy, dominant twist from its flat seventh.
Its notes are F♯, G♯, A♯, B, C♯, D♯, and E. The formula is W W H W W H W. It is the fifth mode of B Major.
Also called Dominant Scale and Khamaj.
An unfretted guitar already sounds E and B from the scale. A guitarist finds the lowest F♯ at the 2nd fret of the low E string. Capo the second fret to play F♯ Mixolydian with E-shape fingerings.
