G sharp Tritone is used for jazz and film music that wants a symmetrical, unstable color. Think of it as a symmetrical six-note scale built on the tritone. It is G♯ Blues Diminished with the third lowered.
Its notes are G♯, A, B♯, D, D♯, and F♯. The formula is H 1½ W H 1½ W.
The open-string notes A and D all sit inside this scale. Down at the 4th fret of the low E string lies the lowest G♯ a guitar can play. A capo at the first fret lets a guitarist play G♯ Tritone with G-shape fingerings.
