D Chromatic is used for passing tones, chromatic runs and free, atonal writing. Think of it as all twelve notes, every half step in the octave.
Its notes are D, E♭, E, F, F♯, G, G♯, A, B♭, B, C, and C♯. The formula is H H H H H H H H H H H H.
Also called Twelve-Tone Scale.
Five open-string notes belong to D Chromatic, namely E, A, D, G, and B. A guitarist finds the lowest D at the 5th fret of the A string.
