E flat Spanish Heptatonic is used for flamenco and Spanish-flavored music. Think of it as the Spanish gypsy scale, a phrygian dominant filled out to eight notes. It is E♭ Bebop Locrian with the fourth lowered.
Its notes are E♭, F♭, G♭, G, A♭, B♭, C♭, and D♭. The formula is H W H H W H W W. It is the third mode of C♭ Bebop Major.
Also called Flamenco Scale and Spanish Eight-Tone.
An unfretted guitar already sounds E, G, and B from this mode. On guitar, the deepest E♭ within reach is the 6th fret of the A string. With a capo at the first fret, E♭ Spanish Heptatonic can be played with D-shape fingerings.
