F sharp Algerian is used for North African flavored and cinematic music. Think of it as an ornate eight-note scale, a harmonic minor with an extra raised fourth. It is F♯ Diminished with the sixth lowered.
Its notes are F♯, G♯, A, B, B♯, C♯, D, and E♯. The formula is W H W H H H 1½ H. It is the fourth mode of C♯ Bebop Altered.
Three open-string notes belong to F♯ Algerian, namely A, D, and B. Down at the 2nd fret of the low E string lies the lowest F♯ a guitar can play. Capo the second fret to play F♯ Algerian with E-shape fingerings.
