About the A sharp Algerian scale
A sharp Algerian is used for North African flavored and cinematic music. Think of it as an ornate eight-note scale, a harmonic minor with an extra raised fourth. It is A♯ Diminished with the sixth lowered.
Its notes are A♯, B♯, C♯, D♯, E, E♯, F♯, and A. The formula is W H W H H H 1½ H. It is the fourth mode of E♯ Bebop Altered.
E and A are open guitar strings that sit inside this mode, ready to drone under a riff. Down at the 1st fret of the A string lies the lowest A♯ a guitar can play. With a capo at the first fret, A♯ Algerian can be played with A-shape fingerings.
