About the A flat Synthetic scale
A flat Synthetic is used for experimental and cinematic writing. Think of it as a made-up six-note scale with a raised fourth and a flat sixth. It is A♭ Whole Tone with the seventh raised.
Its notes are A♭, B♭, C, D, F♭, and G. The formula is W W W W 1½ H. It is the sixth mode of B♭ Prometheus.
In A♭ Synthetic, the open strings sound E, D, and G. Down at the 4th fret of the low E string lies the lowest A♭ a guitar can play. Placed at the first fret, a capo lets A♭ Synthetic be played with G-shape fingerings.
