G flat Bebop Dorian is used for bebop and swing minor solos. Think of it as a dorian scale with a chromatic passing tone between third and fourth.
Its notes are G♭, A♭, A, B♭, C♭, D♭, E♭, and F♭. The formula is W H H H W W H W. It is the fifth mode of C♭ Bebop Dominant.
Also called Dorian Bebop.
An unfretted guitar already sounds E, A, and B from the key. A guitarist finds the lowest G♭ at the 2nd fret of the low E string. A capo at the second fret brings G♭ Bebop Dorian within reach of E-shape fingerings.
